Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has condemned prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for persuading the Federal Government not to label bandits as terrorists.
InsightnaijaTV had earlier reported that the Islamic cleric stated that if the Nigerian government labels bandits as terrorists, Nigeria will disintegrate.
Gumi stated on his Facebook page on Monday that the actions of bandits in the Northwest, which have resulted in the deaths of innocent people, are tantamount to terrorism.
However, he claims that if bandits are designated terrorists, direct international Jihadist movements would spring up, and many unemployed youths will find it appealing.
Fani-Kayode, on the other hand, labeled Gumi as a terrorist in disguise and a bandit sympathiser in a tweet sent on Wednesday via his verified Twitter profile.
Fani-Kayode went on to say that the Islamic cleric is worse than Boko Haram’s murdered commander, Abubakar Shekau, and ISWAP’s West African leader, Al-Barnawi.
He wrote: “Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, the Rasputin of Arewa, whose father once said a Christian must not rule Nigeria & who himself said the FG must not declare the killer bandits as terrorists is worse than Abubakar Shekau & Al Barnawi. He is a venomous snake & a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
