In a bid to enhance the security of lives and properties, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Mr.Kayode Omiyale has inaugurated the data storage platform tagged “Yaba SmartCity Project” (YSCP).
Speaking during the inauguration, Mr Omiyale said that the significance of the YSCP is to ensure timely attendance to security breaches and to keep the neighbourhood safe for all the residents and business owners in the area.
Omiyale added that the new initiative will give security operatives such as officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corp, and other security bodies the privileged to easily pinpoint the location of crime in the area.
The Council boss, also commended the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for acting swiftly towards enhancing the security status of the State as well as management of the daily influx of people to the State.
In his contribution, the Vice Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Mr. Bolanle Aileru said that with the availability of data of the residents of the Lcda, Government will be able to meet the needs of the people and resources distribution will be at ease.
He however, enjoined residents of the area to support the Government by putting in truthful information about themselves in other to make the objective of the project attainable.
In his remark, the coordinator, Yaba SmartCity Project, Dr. Segun Oyebolu said the initiative ‘know-your-neighbors’ is capable of making Communities in the area unattractive for criminal activities and will be difficult for persons with criminal intent to relocate to the area.
Also Speaking at the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the State Criminal Investigative Department, DCP- SCIP, who was represented by Mr. Nelson Monday, said the initiative is welcomed by the Nigerian Police Force.
Mr. Monday also calls for more cooperation of the people to reveale more information to the police in other to help the security agents perform better in discharge of their duties.
