As the world celebrate world population day, its imperative for Government at all levels to protect, provide and raise awareness on the sexual reproductive health needs for women and girls.
A statement released by Development Communications Network, DEVCOMS director, Mr Akin Jimoh, observed that COVID19 pandemic has made women and girls more vulnerable interms of rape, unplanned pregnancy, sexual violence among others.
Mr Jimoh stated that there is need for sustainable public information dissemination as the first step to in addressing sexual reproductive health challenges.
The statement pointed out that women and girls made up 49% of the nation’s population, thus relevant authorities need to prioritise their wellbeing.
The theme for this year’s world population day is to raise awareness about safeguarding sexual and reproductive health needs and vulnerability of women and girls during the COVID19 pandemic, which is why DEVCOMS urged Government to provide adequate protection against adversities arising from the negative consequences of the pandemic on women nd girls.
