Governor Nyesom Wike has declared a statewide ban on the establishment of nightclubs and prostitutes on Abacha Road and other major thoroughfares.
Wike stated in his New Year’s greeting that such festivities cause noise and traffic congestion in the state capital.
No responsible administration, he argued, would accept open displays of sexual parties, street prostitution, drug trafficking, or other illicit activity.
He also prohibited night trading along the Abacha route, claiming that the policy is intended to protect minors from the ill effects of the behaviors.
He urged residents to follow the instructions because anyone who did not would be prosecuted in accordance with state law.
In a similar step, the Governor has asked the chairmen of the 23 local governments to collaborate with community leaders in identifying illicit oil refining installations and reporting to his office for further action.
In his new year greeting, the governor also urged the chairman of Port Harcourt City, Allwell Ihunda, to crack down on the operations of illegal oil refiners in his region, particularly around the creek road axis.
The governor also gave owners of abandoned trucks parked on important roadways a three-week deadline to remove them or face impoundment.
He asked the local government chairmen of PHALGA, Obio/Akpor, Oyigbo, Eleme, and Ikwerre to enforce the decision.
