While maintaining that prospective corps members would not be mobilised for national service without the number, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has provided an explanation for why it made the National Identification Number (NIN) necessary for registration.
The National Identification Management Commission, under the direction of its director general, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, conducted a meeting in Abuja where the organisation said it made the decision to utilise the NIN to mobilise corps members for the 2024 service. The NYSC management was led by Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed.
“Starting from the 2024 Mobilisation Exercise, all the eligible Prospective Corps Members are expected to register for Mobilisation with their National Identification Numbers (NIN),” the NYSC said in a statement issued by Eddy Megwa, Director of Press and Public Relations.
“This was part of the deliberations during the meeting of NYSC Management led by the Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed with the Management of National Identification Management Commission, led by its Director General, Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote in Abuja today.

“The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed said the collaboration with NIMC on Corps Mobilisation would strengthen the online registration process for the Scheme.
“The NYSC Integrated system that was introduced in 2014 has tremendously assisted the Scheme in its mobilization process, but there is a need for improvement.”
Coker-Odusote, the head of NIMC, stated that the commission was prepared for both agencies to work together, arguing that the combined efforts would streamline the mobilisation process overall and tackle a number of problems.
She praised the NYSC’s mobilisation procedures as well as the Scheme’s efforts throughout the course of its more than 50 years of operation to prepare corps members for leadership roles.
In keeping with its pledge to provide the greatest services to the country, she continued, the commission has collaborated with a number of government organisations.
