Infrastructure Deficit, Lack of Enabling Environment, Unionism, Politicization of Education, inadequate funding and limited national roadmap among others have been identified as challenges mitigating against the Education Sector in the Country.
These were the submission of the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, LASU, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun at the maiden distinguished personality lecture series , organized by the the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC Magodo.
Speaking on the theme: “Leadership and management of Educational Institutions- Issues, Challenges and Solutions” Prof. Fagbohun stressed that under funding had been preventing higher Institutions in the Country from competing for global impact and relevance.
Prof. Fagboun further reiterated that only good education and planning could ensure development pointing out that educational Institutions have been serving as breeding grounds for overall development of many nations
The former LASU VC also emphasized, the need to always invest in potential, be a leader with a balanced efficient roadmap for success.
Earlier in an opening remark, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo while eulogizing Prof. Fagbohun who is a professor of Environmental law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, emphasised that anyone who wants to lead educational institutions must have clarity of vision, be goal driven and be a strong team player for such Institutions to thrive.
