Senate President Ahmad Lawan did not participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary contest, according to Bashir Machina, a Yobe North senatorial candidate.
Lawan and the APC leadership are attempting to transfer Machina’s senatorial ticket to the Senate President. InsightnaijaTV reports
This comes after Lawan was defeated in the APC’s presidential primary by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Machina asserted on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday that Lawan had no intention of returning to the upper parliamentary chambers.
While stating that he will not provide his ticket to Lawan, he stated that if the Yobe senator wanted to be in the Senate, he would not have run for president.
Machina said, “No, I won’t step down because Ahmad Lawan did not contest for the Senate. Of course, it is a known fact that Ahmad Lawan contested for president and lost. And when I contested for Senate, Lawan did not participate (in the primary) or did not contest (for Senate). So, I don’t think that may be in any way an issue.”
He also warned the APC against carrying out what he described as undemocratic tendencies which the APC was formed to put an end to.
