After casting his vote in the presidential election on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he made his ballot paper visible to the public.
Sen. Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was supported by President Buhari, who showed his thumbprint for him after campaigning for him in numerous areas of the nation. This rare act of loyalty and support came after Tinubu was named as the president-preferred elect’s successor.
The president affirmed that he had always supported Tinubu’s candidature and that he had further demonstrated this support by displaying his ballot to the public and media.
At Ward A, Sarkin Yara Polling Unit 003, where he voted with his wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and other family members, Buhari expressed regret that the APC had just one female candidate for governor, Aisha Binani, and he urged voters to support her.

“After seeing how the people showed up, I am extremely impressed. I’m quite pleased and delighted.
”Well, the candidate I voted for I have already mentioned him in many states in Nasarawa, Katsina and Sokoto. All over the places I mentioned my favourite candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu, and I believe my constituency will elect him 100 per cent,’’ he said.
“Nigerians should make sure that they are respected; that means that the candidate they want to vote for they are allowed to vote for him.
“It is a pity there is only one female candidate from Adamawa State, so the electorate should kindly follow our party,’’ he added.
The president said, “That is really exciting. It is the first time since 2003 that I am not on the ballot paper. I see the competitors, some of them seem really anxious. They are unaware that I attempted three times and reached the Supreme Court three times.
“The fourth time I said ‘God dey’ and God sent technology, Permanent Voters Card, so no fraudulent person can claim anything,’’ he stated.
