Nigeria can’t do anything correctly, according to Peter Obi, the Labour Party‘s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, until workers’ welfare is well-cared for.
Obi highlighted that this is the reason he is insistent on switching the nation from consumption to production during his Monday speech at the commemoration of this year’s May Day celebrations in Eagle Square, Abuja.
Adding that Nigerians had no other country, he implored you, the workers, to “continue what you are doing, continue to be law-abiding” for a peaceful nation, which he said citizens must create for their children.
The former governor of Anambra State praised organised labour groups for hosting the event and claimed that as a worker himself, he was there in support of all employees.

“The topic of today is socioeconomic justice. When we talk about that, we talk about justice for all,” Obi told the workers who were gathered for the global annual event used to celebrate workers’ achievement.
“All we want is to build a country where Nigerians will be proud to say that they are Nigerians, a country where people will not be struggling to go out, a country where all of us workers will say they are working and happy.
“We can’t get the economy right, we can’t get anything right until the workers are working and they are being looked after — their welfare and everything — and they are productive. That is why we say we will move it from consumption to production.
