The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has verified that armed men raided the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) staff quarters on Tuesday.
DSP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesman, verified the report in a statement.
The perpetrators entered the staff quarters in the GIRI area of the FCT early Tuesday, according to the police, who added that “preliminary investigation revealed that six persons were allegedly abducted into the forest.”
Babaji Sunday, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, has ordered the deployment of “tactical and conventional policing resources” to the UNIABUJA main and satellite campuses, as well as the staff quarters and other locations of the university community.
The intruders were alleged to have taken two professors, two senior lecturers, and two youngsters, according to previous accounts.
Professor Obanza, Malam Sambo Mohammed, Dr. Tobit, and Professor Bassey Ubom, as well as his son and daughter, were among the victims.
Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, the University’s Vice Chancellor, had previously issued a circular requiring “all staff and students [to] wear their official Uniabuja ID cards when entering any of our campuses, including the Giri Quarters,” according to the circular.
“Anyone who cannot explain their mission on our campus, quarters, or any UniAbuja branch, even if they claim to be staff or students, will be turned back,” he warned. “Only a University ID card worn on them is a guarantee for entry.”
