Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his desire to run for president in 2023.
InsightnaijaTV reports that the governor of Ebonyi stated this in a talk with State Correspondents on Tuesday following a visit with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Buhari asked Umahi to seek public support and consult widely with party members and chieftains across the country, according to Umahi.
The Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum further stated that he is unconcerned about APC National Leader and former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambitions.
Umahi, who defected from the PDP to the APC, stated that the presidential election is not about strength or popularity.
The governor’s announcement that he will run for president in 2023 comes just one day after Tinubu announced his presidential bid, which has sparked a variety of emotions.
Tinubu told reporters after a meeting with the president on Monday that being president has been a lifelong aspiration for him.
The APC leader stated that what he accomplished as governor of Lagos can be replicated across the country.
Tinubu added that he is still in talks with many individuals and organisations around the country, despite the fact that he has yet to openly announce his intention.
When asked about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential ambitions, the APC national leader remained silent.
Tinubu explained why he would not remain a kingmaker by stating that nothing prevents a kingmaker from becoming the king until he has murdered someone.
