According to the federal government, some Nigerians stranded in Ukraine as a result of the Russia-Ukraine situation have refused to return home.
Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, stated this in Abuja on Monday at a meeting with Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He said: “We hope to start evacuation hopefully Wednesday, although some do not want to come back. We are doing everything possible to ensure that come Wednesday, we will dispatch planes for evaluation.”
He also added that the government had made preparations for Nigerians currently residing in adjacent countries awaiting evacuation.
Gbajabiamila also stated that the House of Representatives would help speed up the evacuation process.
He said: “It is the moral thing to do. Therefore, if there is anything the House can do to accelerate their (Nigerians) safe return, let us know.”
