Salihu Moh Lukman, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) National Vice Chairman for Northwest, has reacted to a statement attributed to the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, in which he claims the party may sanction the national leader for remarks deemed unflattering to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, expressed his own opinion in the statement, according to Lukman.
Recall that Adamu had warned Tinubu on Saturday that the party would punish him for his outburst during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Abeokuta to beg party delegates’ support on how he had helped Buhari to power.
Lukman responded by saying that while Adamu has the right to his personal opinion, he cannot impose it on other members of the NWC and claim it as the party’s position.
“We all acknowledge that it was unfortunate that Asiwaju made those statements, and it is his right to express his frustrations,” he said. It needs to be acknowledged as such. But no one, regardless of their position, can use it against them unless the party goes through the proper channels to discuss it, which are the party’s rightful organs.
“So, the opinion expressed by Abdullahi Adamu was his personal opinion and it is his own right to present it to any organ of the party for consideration, but until that opinion is adopted by the relevant organ of the party, it cannot be considered as the position of party. It is not the position of APC, it is his personal opinion personal opinion”, he declared.
