Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, has joined other Nigerians in criticizing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu’s selection of Senator Kashim Shettima, a fellow Muslim, as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
Ezekwesili expressed her disgust on Twitter, writing that it was “innately dishonest” for people to change their discourse “just to suit personal interest” as opposed to using a successful business model that creates a diverse community.
Since the former governor of Lagos State nominated his colleague former governor of Borno State as a running mate, reactions have lagged the ruling APC Muslim-Muslim ticket, according to InsightnaijaTV.
A Christian from the Northern region was preferred by several Catholic Bishops and Christian congregations.
The #BringBackOurGirls campaign-famous former minister responded by tweeting, “When innate dishonesty lets people change their language on inclusion only to serve their personal interests, rational minds should never waste time analyzing to make sense of the absurdity. Create a winning plan that permanently reshapes an inclusive society.
“Those who squandered what remained of Nigeria’s management of our diversity and social capital cannot be expected to care about the sensitivities every reasonable mind knows to be critical in stabilising our fractured polity.
“The Siamese twins of bad governance never disappoint. It was a country struggling to become a nation; now it struggles to remain a country. Such failure is hugely not sustainable. I called it “The Unsustainability of Failure” in a speech some years ago.”
