Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, did everything possible, according to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, to prevent him from becoming the party’s nominee for president.
Wike who made the revelation during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Friday, September 23, 2022; said: “There’s nothing Ayu did not do for me not to emerge as the PDP candidate. Ayu did everything to manipulate the system to ensure that all the numbers did not add up.”
The governor believed that the pride that currently threatens the party’s tranquilly could spell its demise when Nigerians go back to the elections. He stated that the main opposition party ignorantly planted a seed of discord by leaving the ticket open for all to contest.
“Those who thought they are too powerful, highly connected, and that they own the party said there should be no zoning of the presidential ticket – ‘leave it open and let the best candidate emerge’ – because they think they have the numbers.

“We jettisoned our constitution not knowing that we are laying the foundation, the seed of discord in the future,” he said.
The governor went on to say that it is unfortunate that those causing the PDP’s division are people who are rarely a contributor.
Wike’s remarks are somewhat related to the movement to have Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman, removed. Given that no Southerner holds any of the top three posts in the PDP, the Rivers State governor claims that the cause has become urgent.
