On Thursday night, suspected terrorists stormed a military checkpoint close to Zuma Rock, a border crossing between Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
As at the time this report was filled out, the details of the attack were still hazy.
However, it was learned that following the attack, Nigerian Army forces had started a clearance operation.
According to reports, the event led to traffic jams in the neighborhood.
Additionally, our correspondent learned that the Nigerian Army has sealed off the Mandala-Kaduna road.
A military source who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, “The terrorists took control of the area for over 30 minutes and kept on shooting before heading towards the Kaduna axis of the expressway,”
The terrorists were pursued into the jungle by soldiers from Zuma Barracks less than 30 minutes after they had left.
A patrol team of police officers then showed up at the area, our correspondent further confirmed.
Brig Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of Army Public Relations, could not be reached.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force’s public relations officer, did not return our phone either.
