The Supreme Court has ordered John Yakubu, a former federal Director of Pensions, to return N22.9 billion to the government.
The Supreme Court also upheld a ruling by the Court of Appeal in 2018 that sentenced him to six years in jail after convicted him of defrauding seniors.
Following Yakubu’s conviction, he petitioned the Supreme Court for a reversal of the decision.
Justice Tijjani Abubakar, on the other hand, concurred with the appeal court that the former pension workers misappropriated public monies.
Authorities contended that the money he was requested to refund was part of the exhibits they used to prove he stole from the Police Pension Fund.
