Ikechukwu Igwebuike, the party’s council area chairman, responded to the tragedy by telling reporters that no lives were lost in the attack but that some members had been hurt.
They just rode up on three motorcycles and started firing, he added.
Igwebuike reported that before disturbing the gathering, the gunmen fired shots in the air and used their firearms to attack party members.
Without naming the opposing party, he continued, “We believe strongly that this is the work of the opposition party.”
“One of our members’ car’s windscreen was broken,”
In a previous incident, gunmen also attacked several party members in Nenwe, a hamlet in the state’s Aninri Local Government Area, on Wednesday.
The unnamed, also numbering around four, assaulted the location on two motorcycles.
Benjamin Ajah, the chairperson of the Labour Party in local government for the council district, acknowledged the attack and stated that it occurred at around 2:00 p.m.
