The Nigerian Muslim Ummah has been instructed to watch for the new moon of Dhul Hijja, 1443AH, beginning on Wednesday, June 29 by Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
This was said by Sultan Abubakar in a statement made on Tuesday in Sokoto and signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the head of the Sultanate Council of Sokoto’s advisory council on religious affairs.
“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Wednesday June 29 which is equivalent to 29th of Dhul-Qidah 1443AH shall be the day to look out for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1443AH.
“Muslims are therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon on Wednesday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan,’’ he said.
The Sultan prayed to Allah to help the Muslim Ummah fulfill its religious obligations.
The Holy Pilgrimage (Hajj) and the Festival of Sacrifice are observed in Dhul-Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar (Eid-el-Kabir).
