An 18-year-old student was detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger Command, for allegedly attempting to kidnap the Provost of the Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, New Bussa.
The suspect, who is a college student, was detained on August 10, 2022 according to a statement made on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 by Nasir Abdullahi, spokesman for the Minna NSCDC Command.
He claimed that the suspect and another person, who is currently at large, allegedly planned to compose a letter threatening to abduct the provost if a ransom wasn’t paid.
However, the defendant did not demand any specific payment from the provost prior to his arrest, according to the Niger NSCDC spokesman.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect has been charged with criminal conspiracy and intimidation on two counts and presented before a Chief Magistrates Court.
The Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology (FCFFT), which is based in New- Bussa, the seat of the Borgu Local Government, is presided over by Dr. B.D. Olaosebikan.
Under the auspices of Kainji Lake Research Institute (KLRI), the College was founded in January 1978 as the Federal Freshwater Fisheries School and initially housed in a temporary location near Shagunu. Since January 1989, FCFFT, New-Bussa, has been self-accounting.
The college claims to annually admit students based on their communal relevance.
