Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, claimed on Sunday that some people wanted President Muhammadu Buhari to endorse one of the party’s candidates for president, but the president turned them down.
In a statement released on Sunday by his media office and signed by Mr. Tunde Rahman, Tinubu claimed that the President’s and the APC’s northern governors’ actions in insisting that all candidates for president be given the opportunity to run for office proved to him that Nigeria can survive its unity and difficulties.

Speaking at Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s home in Akure on Sunday, the APC presidential candidate said President Buhari and the party’s northern governors had shown him that Nigeria can survive its challenges and unity. He had just delivered his Action Plan to the leaders of Afenifere.
“The North showed to me that Nigeria can survive her unity,” he stated. President Muhammadu Buhari declined a request from some people to announce someone. He insisted that democracy be used to carry out the process.
“The President said anyone that would mess up the APC process would see the other side of his eyes. He remained upright and saw the process to the end.
“Northern APC Governors resolved that the Presidency must go to the South and especially South West. Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje and others supported me to the end. The battle was tough and at a point I was in doubt. There were many rumours and I became confused about what to believe.
