An enraged crowd beat a soldier to death for reportedly killing a 3-year-old girl in Molyko, a neighborhood in Buea, Cameroon’s South West Region, because her mother refused to pay a bribe.
Minex Kimora, a student, was shot and murdered in a vehicle by a soldier on Thursday morning, October 14, while she was driving to school, according to reports.
The gendarme officer allegedly opened fire on the vehicle near a check point, and the bullet pierced the back of the youngster, killing him.
According to eyewitnesses, the youngster was being driven to school by her mother in a vehicle when the gendarme stopped them near the Molyko checkpoint.
As the mother attempted to park the vehicle off the road, the gendarme was said to have immediately opened fire from the back which burst through the back screen of the vehicle before hitting the girl.
The officer allegedly demanded a bribe of 500F from the girl’s mother, but she refused to give him the money.
The killing enraged the populace, who descended on the site and brutalized the gendarme officer before lynching him.
The demonstrators then marched through Molyko’s streets with the child’s body on their way to the Governor’s office.
The incident has grounded activities in Buea as security forces have since stepped in, firing shots in the sir to disperse crowds.
However, the shots have been consistent which have forced several school children in Molyko to flee away from school for their safety.
