Mukhtar Shagari, a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, has disclosed that the Labour Party approached him about running as Peter Obi’s vice president.
According to Shagari, who spoke on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 he turned down the opportunity because he didn’t think Obi had a chance to win in 2023.
The PDP leader stated, “The Labour party contacted me and asked whether I would want to be the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi.
“And I looked at the political scenario, what Labour party is, and decided that I cannot be the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi.

“I do not see the path through which Peter Obi will win the election in this country.
“It is so clear that in areas in the South-East, and young people are shouting about him on social media – yes, it’s politics.
“But the truth of the matter is that there are two dominant parties in this country – APC and PDP. If you want to become President, I think you must belong to one of them.”
Zoning, according to Shagari, is not a constitutional issue because it is not included in the country’s constitution.
He declared, “It’s just a party affair.”
