Investigation into the alleged midnight invasion of the Bodija market in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, by men of the Nigeria Customs Service, is underway, by the Senate.
Bags of Rice and other items valued at over eighty five million naira, were said to be seized at the market during the Operations.
The Senate investigation follows the petition from the Ibadan Foodstuff Sellers Association, which was addressed to the President of Senate, Alhaji Ahmad Lawan.
The members of the Association, in the petition, solicited tight security to be put in place in the markets by the Government, to protect their wares after the closure of business, to avoid looting of their Shops by hoodlums.
They also demand that Nigeria Customs Service should be warned against the use of crude and cruel methods of infringing on Traders property or Products.
At the presentation of the petition by the APC OYO, Senator Kola Balogun, the Senate mandated its Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Committee, to investigate the matter.
The Senate President has therefore refered the petition to the Senator Ayo Akinyelure – led Committee on Ethics and Privileges for a thorough investigation.
