Olaniyan Amos, the owner of Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, has been charged with a N35 million fraud in the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Amos was charged with conspiracy, conducting companies of other financial institutions, and acquiring money under false pretenses, together with his company, Crime Alert Security Network Investment.
He was allegedly apprehended after his victims filed a complaint with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accusing him of duping them into investing in a network scam that promised a monthly 30% return on investment.
The defendant and his business have entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
Following their pleas, Galadanchi Sanusi, the prosecution’s lawyer, sought the court to remand Amos and set a trial date.
Richard Ogunwole (SAN), the defendants’ lawyer, notified the court of a bail application he had submitted on their behalf.
The court, however, decided that the application was not ready for hearing since the defense’s affidavit was not properly filed before the court.
Justice Uche Agomoh, the judge, then ruled that Amos be remanded in custody at the correctional center in Abolongo, Oyo State, and that the bail application be heard on October 25, 2021.
The counts read in part, “That you, Olaniyan Gbenga Amos and Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, on or about September 29, 2020, at Ibadan, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N15,000,000 from Fadipe Babajide Ayorinde, when you falsely represented to him that the money was meant for registration and investment with Crime Alert Security Network with a promise of 30% return on investment in six weeks (30 working days), which representation you knew to be false, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 1 (I)(a) and punishable under Section (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2016.”
