Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated a ten member Steering Committee and four member Technical Committee for the Lagos Cares Initiative, an off-shoot of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, N-CARES, Programme for Results.
Under the programme, the Federal Government secured a seven hundred and fifty million dollars World Bank facility support on behalf of State Governments and each State will have a minimum of twenty million dollars.
During the inauguration of the committees in Alausa Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that about 20,000 individuals would benefit directly from the programme which would be
implemented over a twenty four months period, from this year till 2023.
According to the Governor, the programme will specifically encompass three key result areas, which are livelihood support to poor and vulnerable households; food security and facilitation of the recovery of Micro and Small Enterprises from the burden of covid-19.
The Steering Committee is chaired by the State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Sam Egube, Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Solape Hammond, with the Commissioners for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Wealth Creation, Agriculture, Finance, as well as the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund among others as members.
In his remarks, Mr Egube acknowledged that the committees would provide policy guidelines to ensure that the intended beneficiaries are fully reached.
