Liverpool destroyed Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday evening, adding to the pressure on under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer.
The Norwegian could only watch in horror as his Red Devils were ripped apart by the Merseysiders, with Mohamed Salah’s hat-trick providing the highlight of a spectacular game of football, at least for one side.
Jurgen Klopp’s side came out firing, and they were ahead 1-0 after just five minutes, Salah laying on a pass for Naby Keita to slide past a helpless David de Gea.
Eight minutes later, a defensive blunder by Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire allowed Keita to feed Trent Alexander-Arnold, who found the returning Diogo Jota slipping in at the back stick to double Liverpool’s lead.
On 38 minutes, Salah scored his first goal for his own tally, with Klopp’s side splitting the hosts apart, with Roberto Firmino, Jota, and Keita sliding it over, and the Egyptian king beating Victor Lindelof to the near post for 3-0.
On the stroke of halftime, he doubled his wins, with United defending from a dangerous Liverpool throw, with Lindelof, Maguire, and Shaw all dragged in by the ball, and Firmino turning the United captain and feeding his talismanic right winger, who did the rest.
Cristiano Ronaldo was fortunate not to be sent out before the break for kicking out at substitute Curtis Jones, and United’s lack of discipline would become a recurring theme later in the game, with Paul Pogba receiving his marching orders after a VAR intervention for a risky challenge on Keita.
But not before Salah completed his hat-trick: exquisite from the Egyptian, and it was set up by Reds captain Jordan Henderson, who robbed Fred and Pogba in the engine room before bending a lovely ball into the path of his quick team-mate, who scored with panache.
Supporters hissed and jeered, leaving early, leaving Solskjaer with little choice but to watch in horror as his Halloween fear came true.
For Liverpool, it’s a clear statement of their dominance in the title battle. United is dead in the water; Liverpool was bubbling before this outcome, but they’ve sprung into life as a result of it.
Good post. I am dealing with a few of these issues as well..
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I do believe that you should write more on this issue, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people don’t discuss such topics. To the next! Cheers!!
