Following the sinking of the coveted cruiser Moskva, Russian official television declared that World War 3 had begun.
Following the removal of the Black Sea Fleet’s flagship, the Kremlin’s principal propaganda mouthpiece went on a rant last night.
Olga Skabeyeva, a major propagandist for Russian President Vladimir Putin, warned viewers that Western support for Ukraine amounted to outright confrontation with Russia, saying: ‘What it’s escalated into can justifiably be dubbed World War Three.’ That is without a doubt the case.
‘Now we’re definitely fighting against Nato infrastructure, if not Nato itself. We need to recognise that.’
On a second state-run channel, military pundit Dmitry Drozdenko said:
“In actual fact a full-scale multi-level war is underway with the collective West.
“And the West has long been preparing for the war”.
The host of Vremya Pokazhet, Olesya Loseva, told viewers that the West was now supplying Ukraine with “zillions of weapons.” She stated Ukraine was carrying out “yet more provocations, bloody, horrible, completely unthinkable” at the request of the West.
These will “force people to shudder once again and say that Russia Is a country which is unworthy of even being on the world map and that all Russians should simply be wiped off the face of the earth”.
Skabeyeva also claimed that Ukrainians were delighted to see Russian troops in their country. She said:
“For some reason ordinary Ukrainians themselves aren’t noticing any genocide.
“In Kharkiv region they’re welcoming our soldiers like real liberators.
“People are coming out with Russian tricolours onto the streets where our military kit is.
“The people of Kharkiv are accusing not the Russian army of genocide, but the Ukrainian armed forces.”
Officials have refused to recognise Ukraine’s assertions that it fired cruise missiles against the ship, an operation that would be one of Kyiv’s most significant military victories since the war began.
Despite Russia’s claims that the ship sank due to fire, the Ukrainian capital was hit by rockets overnight, indicating Vladimir Putin’s desire for vengeance for the loss of the valued naval asset.
Since Russian soldiers withdrew from the north, the city has been spared aerial bombardment, but there have been strikes against Kyiv, Kharkiv, and sites further west.
