The fourth group of 306 Nigerians escaping the Ukrainian conflict has arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The evacuees landed at 12:35 a.m. on Sunday through Air Peace Airline.
The stranded Nigerians were safely evacuated thanks to the Federal Government’s involvement and the help of governments from Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Mr Mustapha Ahmed, Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), welcomed the returnees on behalf of the Federal Government, saying that President Muhammadu Buhari had granted a gift of $100 to each of them.
Ahmed, who was represented by Air Commodore Edward Adedokun, Director, NEMA Search and Rescue, explained that the money will help them get to their various places.
He said the returnees would be given a one-night stay to relax before continuing their journey back to their homes, while those whose relatives had arrived to pick them up would be allowed to return home.
NEMA personnel, as well as representatives from other agencies participating in the airport’s welcoming, were on the ground to greet the returns.
