Rukayat Shittu, 26, has been elected to the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Rukayat, a former Senate President of the Congress of NOUN Students (CONS), will represent Kwara State’s Owode/Onire constituency.
According to the results declared by Professor Hakeem Ijaya, the Returning Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the woman who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 7,521 votes to defeat her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, who received 6,957 votes during the election on Saturday.
The Kwara State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu of the APC, was proclaimed the winner of the Ilesha-Gwanara state constituency by INEC, defeating Usman Abubakar of the PDP.

The Returning Officer, Dr. Adewale Rafiu, announced the results at the Gwanara LGEA Primary School, the collation centre for the Ilesha/Gwanara constituency. He stated he received 14, 949 votes, while his nearest challenger received 2,072 votes.
Dr. Rafiu said that Yakubu Danladi-Salihu of the APC had won and been re-elected after meeting all legal conditions.
