When the case was called on Tuesday, Chidi Ekeh, the lead prosecutor from the office of the Rivers State Attorney General, requested that the prosecution take over from the police, and the defence attorney did not object.
The matter is being heard by Judge Stephen Pam, who decided in favour of the state government’s request to take over the case.
The politicians’ defence attorney requested bail, but the court held off on making a decision after hearing the bail application and ordered that the lawmaker be held in police custody until then.
Justice Pam then adjourned the case’s hearing until May 4, 2023.
