The State Government’s deployment of bulldozers and other heavy machinery for the demolition of the House of Assembly complex on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, as early as 5 a.m. on Wednesday gave the political unrest in Rivers State a new twist.
At around 7:30 a.m., the complex demolition started, and as of the time this story was written, it was still going on. State sources stated that the state administration was in charge of the Assembly Complex deconstruction.
This occurred a few weeks after unknown political goons set fire to the state assembly’s sacred chambers.
Recall that the attempt to remove the current governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, by certain parliamentarians sparked a major crisis inside the state’s legislative branch.

However, the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Edison Ehie, has ordered the lawmakers to relocate their meetings to a new facility inside Government House, Port Harcourt, while the House of Assembly edifice on Moscow Road is being demolished.
It was reported that Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor, ordered the sittings to be moved to a new location he provided on Wednesday.
During their inaugural meeting at the new location, the legislators chose Hon. Adolphus T. Orubienimigha to be the new majority leader of the assembly.
At the time of the publication of this piece, the state House of Assembly was already in session and debating proposals that would benefit the people of Rivers State. The assembly is chaired by Edison, the officially recognised speaker of the state government, and other members.
