Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara met with members of the State Executive Council on Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The emergency meeting was called in response to the defection of 27 House of Assembly members from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their defection added to the governor’s political standoff with his political godfather, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Recall that parliamentarians failed to impeach the governor a few weeks ago, which resulted in the Assembly complex being set ablaze by unidentified individuals.
