Former presidential adviser Reno Omokri criticised Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) supporters for attacking Professor Wole Soyinka, the winner of the Nobel Prize.
The recent statements by Soyinka regarding the result of the 2023 presidential election, particularly those pertaining to Obi and his running partner, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, provided the context for Omokri’s remarks.
Recall that on Wednesday, Soyinka criticised Baba-Ahmed for his outburst in a recent television appearance, calling his entire conduct dishonourable and claiming that his views resembled fascist vocabulary. He said this in an interview with Arise TV.
He emphasised that Baba-Ahmed has no authority to threaten the judges and that his comments were a “kind of do-or-die attitude and provocation” that goes against democratic principles. He criticised the LP vice-presidential candidate for trying to “dictate to the supreme arbiter of the nation,” saying it was inappropriate.

However, sharing his thoughts on the subject via his Twitter account on Thursday, Omokri said he was not surprised that Obi supporters insulted Soyinka because of his comments despite his earlier support for the LP flagbearer. The submissions have drawn criticism for Soyinka, particularly from Labour Party supporters who are known as Obidients.
A day will come when they will be ridiculed like Soyinka, the former presidential adviser warned, and he felt bad for the activists, journalists, and celebrities who support Obi and Obidients.
Omokri penned: “If Obidients can insult Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, despite his earlier support for Peter Obi, just because of a small criticism he gave, who are you that they won’t take to the cleaners, after using you? Unless you are willing to keep praising Obi till infinity!”
He added: “I sympathise with activists, journalists, and entertainers acting as sidekicks to Peter Obi and Obidients. A time will come when being a yes-man for that movement stops giving you traffic. When that day comes, they will treat you as they have treated Prof. Soyinka!”
