Reactions have begun to trail the proposed hike in the price of premium motor spirit, otherwise known as petrol. The Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, had recently called on the Federal Government to effect a total removal of fuel subsidy.
The Forum’s proposal implies that Nigerians may be paying a minimum of three hundred and eighty-five naira for a litre of petrol, which amounts to double of the present pump price.
However, some Nigerians have described the move as unacceptable and asked the Federal Government and the Governor’s Forum to perish the idea due to current economic hardship and other challenges.
While the push for increase in pump price remains a controversial topic, another hike in electricity tariff is due to commence next month. Electricity consumers are calling for improved power supply and service delivery by Electricity Distribution Companies before any increase in electricity tariff.
