Following reports of intermittent gunfire and bomb blasts at the Kuje Correctional Centre on Tuesday night, security has been reinforced across the majority of Kuje neighborhoods in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
During a tour of the area, an InsigthnaijaTV correspondent noticed a strong security presence and armed soldiers dressed fiercely.
Armoured tanks were reportedly stationed near the Kuje Prison crossroads, and several security team patrols were taking place in vehicles with sirens blasting.
The roads leading to the prison area have been sealed off by the Police and other security personnel, and mobility is now restricted there.
Banks and some schools were still shuttered as a result of the tension in the region, and police helicopters were visible circling overhead.
To prevent any disturbance, more security personnel have been placed on red alert.
Residents who had recently left the neighborhood told NAN that the prolonged, loud gunfire began at 10 p.m. and lasted for about an hour.
They claimed that while the identity of the shooters remained unclear, some criminal elements were thought to be responsible.
