The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammadu Adam on Monday, June 8, 2020 reveal a new operational Guidelines for Police and other law Enforcement Agencies on COVID-19 prevention.
Adamu said that the significance of the Operational guidelines was to foster harmonious relationship between members of the public and the Police Force, to tackle crime such as child molestation and other Gender Based Violence(GBV) and protection of citizens rights.
The IGP noted this in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer DCP Frank Mba at the force headquarters, Abuja.
Mr. Adamu stated that the increase in reported cases of domestics violence, defilement, cyber crime, rape and many other elated crimes linked with COVID-19 restrictions had prompted the urgent introduction of the Operational Guidelines to remold the operation of police and other law enforcement agencies in the country.
He further directed that the Assistant Inspectors General of Police and commissioners in zonal and State Commands, Heads of Police department are directed to make guidelines subject of departmental briefing to other officers.
The Operational Guidelines is expected to become a training manual in the entire police training institutions. The IGP however charged the Force Provost, X-Squad, force Public Relations Unit, Public Complaint Response unit and bureau execute their oversight functions by ensuring adequate compliance to the Guidelines and bring erring officers to book.
Adamu also appeal to citizens to cooperate with the force as well as other law enforcement officers as all are hands are on deck to contain the deadly virus in the Country. He also commended the Director, CLEEN Foundation and representative of the British High Commission and other corporate bodies for their contributions and presence at the unveiling of the Guidelines.
