A suspected electric accessory thief was electrocuted, according to the Abia police command, in Amoji-Ukwu Village, in the state’s Obingwa Local Government Area.
The accused burglar was electrocuted early on Friday while severing two cables connected to a transformer, said to SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the command’s public relations officer.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Aba, Ogbonna confirmed the report.
Chinenye Agomuo, an Amoji-Ukwu Village resident, claimed that a guy cut cables leading to a transformer on Friday, which led to an explosion in the neighborhood.
“On Friday morning, about 4: 00 a.m., we heard an explosion suspected to be from a transformer.
“After the explosion, I began to get phone calls from my brother living near the transformer, asking me to come to the scene.
“He said that someone climbed the transformer and was electrocuted.
“When we reached there, it was a young man.
“He had climbed up to cut the armored cables but unfortunately for him, the current killed him,” Agomuo said.
According to him, the incident was reported to the Eastern Ngwa Police Station by the locals.
According to Agomuo, the police assisted in transferring the suspect’s body to a mortuary.
