The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Chief Gbenga Ogbara, was assassinated in the state’s Atakumosa East Central Local Government Area, according to the Osun Police Command.
SP. Yemisi Opalola, the Command’s Spokesperson, confirmed the event on Monday in Osogbo, saying the chairman was killed by suspected gunmen in his sitting room at 12 a.m.
The chairman’s remains had been deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Wesley Guild, Ilesa, according to Opalola.
According to her, the police investigation into the case is still underway.
She stated that the culprits of the crime would be apprehended soon.
“Policemen had since been deployed to the area.
“The criminals will not escape justice,” the spokesperson said.
It was reported that after midnight, suspected gunmen attacked the late APC chairman’s home in Igangan, his hometown, and shot him dead.
The homicide was thought to be politically motivated, given the state governorship election was less than three months away.
