A seven-man gang of serial ritualists has been detained in Ogun state in connection with the killing and dismemberment of one Sunday at Agbara village in Abeokuta’s Mawuko region.
Lekan Oladipupo, 38; Sulaiman Aremu, 30; Ifayemi Madru, 24; Shittu Saheed, 38; Samod Sulaiman, 35; Akanji Moruf, 23, and Tajudeen Adekunle, 36 were named as suspects.
They were apprehended after Abraham Okosun, the deceased’s brother, filed a report with the Bode Olude Divisional Headquarters.
Abraham told the police that he went to see his brother (the victim) at Agbara village via Mawuko Abeokuta, only to find out that he had been brutally murdered and his body dissected by unknown people.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified this to reporters in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Following the report, DSP Durojaye Rotimi, the DPO of Bode Olude Division, visited the spot with his detectives and launched an intelligence probe to discover those responsible for the heinous conduct, according to Oyeyemi.
He said the police acted on credible information, which led to the arrest and tracing of the main suspect, Oladipupo, who admitted to shooting and killing the dead with his dane gun.
According to the Police PRO, the suspect’s confession led to the arrest of six additional suspects, who described their separate roles in the horrible murder of the deceased and others killed in similar circumstances during interrogation.
Oladipupo described his participation to the police, saying that his part was to hunt for a victim in a jungle near Mawuko and shoot that individual to death. He’ll then contact Aremu, who would butcher the victim’s body and remove crucial organs for distribution to their on-call clientele.
Customers include Badru, who purchases the heart, hands, and other body parts; Akanji, who also purchases the heart; and Saheed and Adekunle, who purchase the head.
The accused confessed to killing at least four people in identical situations, according to Oyeyemi, and their body parts were used in money-making rituals.
He believes that the accused have code names for each human body part that they might request from their butcher.
“For example, they normally referred to human head as ball, the heart as transformer, while the hands is code named as fans,” the PPRO said.
The gun and cutlass they used for the dastardly act have been recovered.
