According to Chief Baron Eyo, Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Cross River, Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, is the only one who can bring about the “impossible” transformation Nigerians desire.
He disputed the assumption that the former Anambra governor has no chance of winning the 2023 presidential election while speaking with reporters in Calabar on Tuesday.
Eyo, who is also the chairman of the Cross River Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), said Obi’s predecessor in office as governor and as a businessman was already working for him.
He claimed that Obi’s acceptance by the majority of Nigerians had made him the presidential contender to beat in 2023.
He claimed that, in addition to his background, Obi possesses the qualifications and experience necessary to effect the essential changes in Nigeria’s democracy.
Nigerians, he believes, require a bright young individual who can lead the country in areas such as security and education, among other things.
“It is not about just being a president, the president should be someone who can be called upon at any time and he will take up the challenge.’’ he said.
“Obi has come to rekindle the winning spirit of the Labour Party,” Eyo told reporters. We have facilities all around the country.
“Members of the LP are die-hard ones. They are here because of the ideals of the party and not what they can get to make ends meet politically; they are here because they want to bring about that change that we all desire.
“Obi’s candidacy is already becoming a movement; you can see many Nigerians donating their resources, money, vehicles and buildings to be part of the movement.’’
