165 parcels of land in the serviced districts of the Federal Capital City, some of which belonging to well-known Nigerians, have been cleared for immediate cancellation by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This information was reportedly disclosed in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the FCT, Olushade Adesola, in which it was stated that the revocation was caused by the violation and contravention of the conditions of the Right of Occupancy’s development and the failure of the plots’ assigned owners to be developed.
The plots that have been cancelled, according to Adesola, belong to people and corporations who have repeatedly broken the terms of their contracts as outlined in Sections 28(5)(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
The FCTA further stated that Wike had given his approval to the notice of revocation prepared by the Land Department as a result of ongoing violations of the contract’s stated provisions.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA hereby informs the general public that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, revoked the underlisted plots with names and titles as reflected in our records for continued contravention of the terms of development of the Right of Occupancy, namely non-development,” Adesola said in the statement.
High-profile people who were impacted by the action included Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party; Senator Liyel Imoke, a former governor of Cross River State; Chief Uffot Joseph Ekaette, a former secretary to the Government of the Federation; and Late Justice Niki Tobi, a former justice of the Supreme Court and chairman of the National Political Reforms Conference (NPRC).
Udoma Udo Udoma, a former justice of the Supreme Court, Kanu Agabi, a former attorney general of the Federation and minister of justice, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of the BUA Group, Sam Nda-Isaiah, a former chairman of Leadership Newspapers, and writer Donu Kogbara were some of the others.
Both Imoke’s plot of land in Maitama and Obi’s plot of land in Katampe District were revoked.
The impacted plots are located in the following FCC districts: Gudu (B01), Wuye (B03), Central Business District, Maitama (A05), Maitama (A06), Wuse II (A08), and Maitama (A05).
Others include the districts of Jabi (B04), Utako (B05), Katampe Extension (B19), Idu Industrial Area (C16), and Asokoro (A04), in that order.
Additionally, the Wike approved the cancellation of the affected plots as a result of the infringement of the Rights of Occupancy, according to a statement made last night by the Director of Information and Communication for the FCT, Mohammad Hayat Sule.
