Prior to the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president, continued his campaign Monday by travelling to Jigawa State.
If elected president, Obi promised a gathering of supporters in Dutse that he and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, remained dedicated to bringing about a “new Nigeria.” He gives the Nigerian people assurance that he is dedicated to a new Nigeria. The Nigeria you see now is an unstable, impoverished country with few jobs, no roads, and no public schools. What we want to alter is that.

“I assure you that we are committed to a new Nigeria. The Nigeria you see today is Nigeria of insecurity, Nigeria of poverty, Nigeria of no work, Nigeria of no roads, Nigeria of no schools. That is what we want to change.
“For several years, we have been under insecurity, poverty, they closed our borders, poverty, and there is no work. The Nigeria we are offering you is a new Nigeria where there will be security, Nigeria will be united, there will be jobs and I will move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi said.
The Labour Party candidate pleaded with Jigawa voters not to cast their ballots in the upcoming election on the basis of their tribe, ethnicity, or religion, saying that no tribe, ethnic group, or religion has a lower cost of living than others.
Additionally, he urged the populace to demand that it is Nigeria’s time to retake its nation rather than accepting any suggestion that it is their turn to assume office.
The candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and that of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, are both up against the former governor of Anambra State (PDP).
