The Peoples Democratic Party has moved Ekiti State’s governorship primary from June 18 to January 26, 2022.
This is according to a letter signed by Senator Iyorchia Ayu, Chairman of the PDP, and Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu, National Secretary of the PDP.
The PDP stated in a letter dated January 4, 2020 and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission that its ward congress to elect the three-member ad hoc ward delegates had been rescheduled from January 7 to January 15.
It went on to say that the local government congresses to elect one national delegate and one person with a disability from each local government area in the state had been rescheduled for January 22, 2022, rather than January 15, 2022.
The PDP stated in the letter, titled ‘Re: Notice of Party Primary for Ekiti State Governorship Election Scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2022,’ that the postponement was required due to unforeseen circumstances.
At least 17 people have declared their intention to run in the PDP governorship primary. Senator Abiodun Olujimi, former Governor Segun Oni, former Deputy Governor Olusola Eleka, Albert Adaramodu, Aribisala Adewale, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, and Mrs Olumide Ojo are among them. Eight of the candidates are female.
