The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set March 7 as the date for its primary for the governorship election in Osun.
This was stated in a statement issued on Wednesday by Umar Bature, the PDP’s national organising secretary.
Recall that the PDP’s national working committee (NWC) named a five-member screening panel for the 2022 governorship primary in the state on January 10, chaired by Mohammed Bello Adoke, former Attorney-General of the Federation.
The panel had approved all candidates for the exercise.
According to Bature, a stakeholders’ meeting on the upcoming election will take place on February 1 in Abuja, followed by ward congresses to elect delegates two weeks later.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at its 544th meeting today, the 26th of January, 2022, after a careful consideration, approved the Osun State Screening Committee and Appeal Panel reports which cleared all the six (6) gubernatorial aspirants,” the statement reads.
“To this effect, all cleared aspirants are to note the following important activities: Osun State Stakeholders meeting with the NWC in Abuja – Tuesday, February 01, 2022; ward congresses to elect 3-Man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegates – Wednesday, February 16 – 17, 2022; LGA Congresses to elect (1) National Delegate per local government and Person Living With Disability (PLWD) – Saturday, February 26, 2022; party primary (to elect flagbearer) – Monday, March 07, 2022.”
