Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, commented on the Peoples Democratic Party‘s (PDP) internal divisions on Monday, saying that while “nothing has happened yet,” “something will happen” shortly.
Nobody can intimidate the PDP ex-presidential candidate, he claims, since he will always act morally regardless of threats or blackmail.
He said as Eneka Internal Roads was flagged off in the state’s Obio-Akpor region.
“Anyone who knows me knows that once I have made up my decision and I believe that what I am doing is right, if you like, let the whole people team up, as much as my conscience is clear, I will always do what is right,” Wike said.
“We should all be calm; you’ve heard what’s going on in PDP,” I said. By God’s grace, something will happen even though nothing has transpired thus far.
After Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, won the PDP presidential election in May, Wike is rumoured to be unhappy. The choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as Atiku’s running mate was also claimed to have offended the governor of Rivers.
In the midst of the turmoil engulfing the main opposition party, Wike met with Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP). Along with former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Wike also met with Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State and a past APC candidate for president.
Prior to his remark on Monday, Wike had stated that Nigerians would benefit from consultations.
Following his Friday arrival from London, the governor made a statement in the VIP Lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport. He stated, “We feel that what is going on would be in the benefit of Nigerians at the end of the day.
The consultation process is ongoing. Nothing we’ve mentioned so far has been put into practise. There are discussions going on.
