Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has addressed rumors that he will leave the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
In order to clear the air, Ortom said he had no plans to stop using PDP.
Prior to the turmoil engulfing the PDP, there were rumors that the governor and his colleague from Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, intended to leave the PDP.
However, Ortom stated they continue to be party members when speaking on Arise TV on Thursday.
Recall that Ortom and several other PDP leaders had expressed their displeasure over Atiku Abubakar’s choice of Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate rather than Wike.
In an interview, Ortom had criticized Atiku for choosing Wike against the advice of the party, saying the former Vice President should have personally contacted the governor of the Rivers.
However, Ortom revealed in the Arise TV interview that Atiku had contacted him to plead to the disgruntled Wike.
He said, “I want to assure Nigerians, that we are members of the PDP and we will not defect to any other political party, we look forward to the leadership of the party to unite and bring all of us together.
“Thank God, the Presidential candidate of our great party has reached out to me to talk with my brother and friend governor Wike and once our Presidential candidate meets and pacifies Governor Wike, we will move forward”.
