Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has pleaded with Senator Adolphus Wabara, the chairman of the party’s board of trustees, to assist in resolving the problem inside the party by reaching out to resentful party members.
Dr. Ayu stated that the National Working Committee would travel to Port Harcourt early next week to meet with Governor Nyesom Wike of River State “for full reconciliation” as part of efforts to address the party’s outstanding issues.
The Deputy Chairman (North), Amb, will serve as the leader of the NWC members. Damagun, Iliya.

As the incoming BoT Chairman with diplomatic experience, Dr. Ayu said to Senator Wabara: I’m telling you that you have our complete support, as well as that of the presidential and vice presidential candidates who phoned me 30 minutes before we arrived, as you utilise your diplomatic abilities to reach out to all irate members.
“We are behind you. They should be chosen by the BoT as a whole, and contacted. We are pleading with them to return and cooperate with us.
Members of the party are divided as a result of the internal conflict that followed the party’s presidential primary, with supporters of Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike hurling insults.
In order to prevent the North from controlling all of the important positions in the party, Governor Wike has publicly expressed his displeasure with events taking place within the party and asked for Dr. Ayu’s resignation or removal as National Chairman.
In an effort to allay that worry, Wabara’s nomination to the BoT was made, but the Governor requested that Dr. Ayu be fired.
Dr. Ayu adopted a more accommodating stance when he visited Senator Wabara after previously insisting he wouldn’t step down and criticising the call for his removal.
He said to Senator Wabara, “My sense is that the party wants unity. “Thank goodness, with your extensive background as a diplomat, former House of Representatives member, former senator, and ex-President of the Senate who has worked with this party for a long time, you can play the role of a unifier even better.”
According to Dr. Ayu, the NWC would not just be visiting Governor Wike.

He continued, “I also want to make known to you that the NWC, led by the Deputy National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagun will visit Gov. Wike as well as everyone other who feels wronged. The NWC reached this decision unanimously, and we believe it will be beneficial if you take the initiative in pushing for complete peace and reconciliation inside the party.
There are appropriate times to express anger and inappropriate times to let it go. So, with your new position as the party chairman of the BoT, please aid us in our efforts to apologise to all offended members and work to mend the party.
The BoT Chairman congratulated the national chairman and other NWC members, expressing his gratitude for their outpouring of kindness, support, and concern.
“I value each of you. To guarantee the party’s victory in 2023, we will cooperate, he stated.
The National Secretary, National Treasurer, National Auditor, National Publicity Secretary, and the National Woman Leader were among the NWC officials who travelled with the national chairman.
