The party’s national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, will be remembered as a hero if he voluntarily steps down in the cause of peace and the party’s election success, according to the South-West Forum of PDP Stakeholders for Justice.
As you may recall, the PDP experienced a crisis after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was chosen as the party’s presidential candidate for the general elections in 2023.
Some PDP governors and leaders, especially those from southern Nigeria, insisted that, in the sake of fairness, northern Nigeria should not be given the party’s presidential nomination and national chairmanship.
Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other party officials from southern Nigeria are leading the charge in the fight for Ayu’s resignation, who is from the North Central region of Nigeria.

At a meeting with Abubakar with the zone’s stakeholders on September 17, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and a few South West PDP leaders also demanded Ayu’s resignation.
The forum’s coordinators, Messrs. Banji Okunomo and Gani Taofik, jointly issued a statement in Lagos on Thursday endorsing the demands for the party chairman’s resignation.
It claims that the only solution for party peace is the chairman’s resignation.
The group stated, “We, the aforementioned PDP forum, wishes to affirm our support for the position being canvassed by Makinde, corroborated by the tenacity of the “Wikes” and the insight of the “Bode Georges” as a permanent solution for peace and the ultimate success of our party at the 2023 presidential election.
According to the forum, Ayu ought to be willing to make a sacrifice to help Atiku win the upcoming election.
“In our opinion, Ayu should indeed go farther to logically and wisely end the process that would ensure that Abubakar will be elected as the next president of Nigeria by making any more sacrifices that may be required to do so.
According to the organisation, “In fact, this is why and when Ayu himself will be more hailed as the PDP’s hero of democracy rather than obstructing the party’s growth and causing unneeded crises for the party.”

It cautioned Abubakar to avoid following the bad advice and irrational suggestions of some party spies.
It claimed that the moles were persistent in voicing opinions that could endanger the opportunity that God had provided for the PDP in the new regime.
“God forbid, if this opportunity passes us by, Nigerians may never again associate with the PDP. Nigerians are genuinely looking forward to the PDP as the real powerful alternative administration.
We demand the urgent restoration of reason, self-assurance, inclusivity, and unity inside the Party since “a stitch in time saves nine,” the statement read.
According to InTv, the situation deteriorated on Wednesday when members of Wike’s caucus quit the Abubakar presidential campaign council during a meeting in Portharcourt, Rivers.
In order to promote “balance” in the party, the group declared they would not take part in Atiku’s campaign activities unless the party’s national chairman gave up his position for a southerner.
