The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, must resign in compliance with the party’s constitution, rules, regulations, and practise, according to PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who made this stipulation on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
We are unable to act outside of our constitution until it is changed, according to Atiku. Without changing the laws, there is nothing we can do.
“Ayu must review our constitution, norms, and practises; otherwise, we will be unable to provide the kind of leadership that Nigerians desire.
“We have done it before, and we are starting to do it again, so it is conceivable and attainable.”
Atiku made this announcement at the PDP Southwest stakeholders gathering, which was hosted in Ibadan’s well-known Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall of the University Teaching Hospital.

Atiku encouraged PDP members not to let the controversy distract them from their efforts to win the upcoming general elections as he responded to the region’s decision to ask for Ayu’s resignation at the meeting.
The message of the area, that Ayu must retire to make place for fairness and equity, has already been delivered to the party presidential candidate by Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde. Prior to the 2023 elections, Makinde asserted that the party’s structural difficulties needed to be resolved.
“If we want to unite PDP, we must first unite Nigeria. The PDP must reflect a national unity government if we want it. We must first restructure PDP if we wish to reform Nigeria.
“Our Presidential candidate is from Northeast, our National Chairman is from North Central, the Director General of Atiku campaign, Aminu Tambuwa is from the Northwest, so the PDP National Chairman should step down now for peace to reign.” He insisted.

“We cannot do anything outside our constitution except it is amended, we cannot do anything unless the laws are amended. Ayu must go through our constitution, rules, regulations, and our practice, otherwise, we cannot give the kind of leadership Nigerians want. It is possible, it is achievable, we have done it before and we have started doing it again.”
PDP Deputy National Chairman for the North, Umar Damagum, spoke on behalf of the party’s national chairman and asked members to dedicate themselves and work tirelessly to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
Ibadan is the centre of politics for the Southwest and all of Nigeria, he said, so the location of the meeting was carefully chosen.
